World War Z

8/9/11 - Paramount will release World War Z on Dec. 21, 2012, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  World War Z, currently in production, is being directed by Marc Forster and adapts Max Brook’s novel World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. The movie stars Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale and Matthew Fox.

 

7/22/11 - Elyes Gabel will join Paramount’s World War Z, a post-apocalyptic thriller starring Brad Pitt, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Marc Forster is directing the movie, an adaptation of the 2006 Max Brooks novel of the same name that depicts a global zombie take-over 10 years after the fact.  Gabel will play a character named Fassbach, although little is known about the role.

 

4/26/11 - Mireille Enos nabbed the role of Brad Pitt's wife in World War Z, an adaptation of Max Brooks' globe-spanning zombie novel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Marc Forster is directing for Paramount.  Shooting is scheduled to begin in June in London, Malta and other locales around the world.  The novel is set 10 years after a global zombie epidemic, and is an oral history told from many perspectives around the world. Pitt, who is also producing, will play a U.N. worker. Enos would play his wife, a mother of two girls.

 

7/22/10 - According to MTV News, Brad Pitt is set to star in the big screen adaptation of Max Brooks' post-apocalyptic zombie horror novel, World War Z.  The author also reportedly said that Paramount has optioned the rights to two of his other projects, "The Zombie Survival Guide" and "The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks."  According to Brooks, Paramount is aiming for a summer 2012 release of the zombie epic, with "Quantum of Solace's" Marc Forster reportedly directing.  "I'm glad they took their time, and are trying to make the best zombie movie they can," the author said. "I'm so glad they stayed with the project and so glad they found the right team."

 

4/23/10 - Paramount renewed the option to make World War Z, a bigscreen adaptation of Max Brooks' best-selling post-apocalyptic tome about a worldwide infestation of flesh-eating zombies.  Filmmaker Marc Forster is developing the project, while Brad Pitt's Plan B shingle is producing.  In his tome, Brooks -- son of Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft -- tells the tale of a researcher for the U.N. Postwar Commission who interviews survivors from all over the world in order to put together a post-mortem on a war that destroyed every country around the globe.

 

7/20/09 - Matthew Michael Carnahan has been set to rewrite the movie version of World War Z, Fangoria reported.

 

6/16/09 - Director Marc Foster says that the anticipated film adaptation of the zombie-themed World War Z may have to wait a little longer: Speaking with Migros Magazin (via Dark Horizons), Forster says the film's script still needs a lot of development and is "still far from realization."

 

12/4/08 - J. Michael Straczynski talked with MTV.com about his script for the upcoming World War Z movie, which he said will feature a scene "in India with hundreds of boats trying to get out of there with a tidal wave of zombies. The scale of what we're doing here is phenomenal."

 

11/14/08 - Paramount has set director Marc Forster to helm World War Z, based on the Max Brooks best-selling novel about a worldwide infestation of flesh-eating zombies, Variety reported.  J. Michael Straczynski is writing the screenplay, and Brad Pitt's Plan B is producing.  Brooks wrote a detailed tale in which a researcher for the U.N. Postwar Commission interviews survivors from countries all over the world, 10 years after the crisis, to gather a first-person post-mortem on a war that obliterated every country on the map.  Paramount bought the book for Plan B in 2006.
