Wanted 2 9/27/11 - Derek Haas and Michael Brandt have been tapped to work on Wanted 2 for Universal, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 2008 movie, directed by Timur Bekmambetov, was based on a comic mini-series by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones and centered on a disillusioned office worker who discovers his father was part of a secret society of super-human assassins. Brandt and Hass wrote the screen story and shared screenwriting credits with Chris Morgan. Marc Platt is producing alongside Timur Bekmambetov. Jim Lemley, Ken Levin and Jason Netter also are producing. Jeff Kirschenbaum and Anikah McLaren are overseeing the project for the studio.
1/11/10 - SCI FI Wire reported that Wanted star, James McAvoy, says he heard from director Timur Bekmambetov as recently as New Year's Eve saying that a sequel could be gearing up shortly. "I got a call from Timur just as the bell struck 12," McAvoy said. "He said, 'I will call you in two weeks and maybe have something to tell you then.'" The first film starred Angelina Jolie as a sexy assassin and Morgan Freeman as the leader of a centuries-old clan of assassins. McAvoy emerged as the breakout star, playing Wesley Gibson, the son of a world-class assassin. Starting out as an office grunt, he trains with the assassins to become a bullet-bending expert shot. (The movie was based on Mark Millar's comic series.) The director gave McAvoy little indication where the second story would go. The actor knows only that his services may be required in the near future.
4/17/09 - Evan Spiliotopoulos has been hired to write Universal's action sequel Wanted 2, based on a story by Chris Morgan, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The sequel will be based on the comic series created by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones. Marc E. Platt and Jim Lemley are producing with Timur Bekmambetov, who directed the first film and is attached to helm the sequel.
9/2/08 - Wanted creator Mark Millar told Newsarama that he will be providing some story ideas for an expected sequel: "What I will be doing is providing them with a very small amount of stuff for a story, and that will be used as a basic story that they can build from. It will be a small outline that can possibly be picked apart and not used--but it will be something exclusively for the second film, and no one will ever really see it."
