9/23/10 - Kate Beckinsale will reprise her role as vampire heroine Selene in Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment's fourth installment of the Underworld movie series. A search for a director is currently under way, as well as an actress to portray Selene's daughter. Production is set to start in March 2011 in Vancouver. John Hlavin wrote the script, which underwent revisions by comics writer J. Michael Straczynski. Lakeshore Entertainment's Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi and Len Wiseman are producing the new movie.
8/31/09 – SCI FI Wire reported that Kate Beckinsale denied widespread reports that she has signed on to a fourth Underworld film, which would begin a new trilogy in 3-D. Beckinsale told a group of reporters that she had barely even considered reprising the role of vampire/death dealer Selene. "I haven't signed anything," Beckinsale said. "It was always conceived as a trilogy, which I was never going to be in the third one. I think if they came up with an amazing script or whatever, then, sure, I wouldn't be averse to it, but it's not necessarily planned." Beckinsale is aware of development on Underworld 4, but only through the Hollywood rumor mill. "I heard they're talking about a fourth one, but I don't know if that's officially happening or if that's just a rumor," she said. "As far as I'm concerned, it's a rumor."
8/14/09 - Bloody-Disgusting reported that Kate Beckinsale has indeed signed to appear in a proposed fourth Underworld movie, the first in a proposed trilogy, to be shot in 3-D and arriving in theaters Jan. 21, 2011.
8/10/09 - Screen Gems will make a fourth Underworld movie in 3-D, ShockTillYouDrop reports. No word yet on whether the movie will be another prequel, like Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, or follow up on the loose ends left dangling at the end of Underworld: Evolution. No returning stars or recurring characters have been confirmed as yet. The fourth film in the "vampires-fighting-werewolves-across-the-centuries" franchise is currently scheduled for a January 2011 release.
4/16/09 – SCI FI Wire reported that Kevin Grevioux, the creator and co-star of the Underworld films, will continue to develop the series regardless of the medium. "I want to continue to be involved," Grevioux said. "I've been writing the comic books, I did the miniseries for IDW. But, you know, there are a lot of ideas that I still have that I would like to explore."
