Tomb Raider 3/8/11 - Producer Graham King has acquired the feature film rights to Tomb Raider and will reboot the action-adventure franchise aiming for a 2013 release, according to The Hollywood Reporter. King's GK Films banner may be looking to do a Lara Croft origin story rather than continue her previous adventures. The company said it aims to "create daring new adventures for the young and dynamic Lara Croft." No writer has been hired yet.
5/28/09 - Producer Dan Lin told reporters that the proposed Tomb Raider reboot movie will, in fact, be a prequel. "It's a great origin story that we're going to tell," Lin said. "Very character-oriented, I would say, more realistic than the past Lara Croft movies." Lin added that casting for the role has yet to begin, but that the filmmakers are definitely looking for someone a little younger than Angelina Jolie, who played the role in the previous installments.
1/28/09 - Warner Brothers and producer Dan Lin are in early development on a reboot of Tomb Raider, a movie based on the popular video-game action franchise featuring Lara Croft, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The new project is expected to revamp the character and her mission and bear little resemblance to the two Paramount movies also based on the game, 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003's Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, which featured Angelina Jolie in the title role. The new film will reimagine the origins of the character, her love interest and the main villain. As an open-writing assignment, the project is still in its nascent stages. An actress who could play the role Jolie made famous would likely come on after a writer and director are attached. Lin will produce the project via his Lin Pictures banner, while Stephen Gilchrist will co-produce; Ian Livingstone of Eidos will executive-produce.
