4/27/12 - Julie Plec has been tapped to pen the screenplay for The
Tiger’s Curse, Paramount’s adaptation of the young-adult book by Colleen
Houck, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Mary Parent’s Disruption
Entertainment is producing.
The book tells of a 17-year-old girl who takes a temp job caring for a
white tiger at the local circus. She sets off on an epic adventure when
she discovers that the tiger is a cursed Indian prince who turns into a
man for only 24 minutes per day. Their quest to end the curse leads them
through exotic locales in India and brushes with Hindu gods and
goddesses.
10/5/11 - Ineffable Pictures has optioned the film rights to New York Times Bestselling teen novel, Tiger’s Curse by Colleen Houck, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It aims to start production on the film within two years. Tiger’s Curse is the first of five planned novels following 17-year-old Kelsey Hayes as she tries to break a 300-year-old Indian curse that has turned a prince into a white tiger. Ineffable Pictures founder, Emmy-nominated producer Raphael Kryszek (Writer's Draft, Fox Legacy with Tom Rothman), says he read the book at the urging of his 11-year-old cousin. “And immediately I felt compelled to get in touch with Colleen to inquire about the film rights,” Kryszek said. "The book has had such a success with readers and I instantly saw it as an epic film saga in the vein of Twilight and Indiana Jones." Houck self published the novel in 2009 before signing to Sterling Publishing, which re-released the book under its Splinter imprint in January. Tiger’s Curse hit the New York Times Best Sellers list for children’s chapter books in February. The second book in the series, Tiger’s Quest, was released in June and also landed on the New York Times Bestseller list. The third installment in the saga, Tiger’s Voyage, is slated for a November release.
