Thor 2

12/26/11 - Alan Taylor, best known for directing episodes of HBO's fantasy series Game Of Thrones, has nabbed the job of director for Thor 2 replacing Patty Jenkins, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Sources say that Taylor has now beaten out fellow Game of Thrones helmer Daniel Minahan and has received an offer to direct the superhero sequel, which is aiming to hit theaters in November 2013. Marvel declined to comment.

12/9/11 - Marvel Studios is looking at two new director prospects: Alan Taylor and Daniel Minahan, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Marvel is also looking to hire writers John Collee, Robert Rodat, and Roger Avary.  Marvel may be moving fast on the sequel to this past summer’s hit, but it does have some time on its side: Thor 2 is slated for a Nov. 15, 2013 release.

12/6/11 - Petty Jenkins is no longer directing Thor 2 due to creative differences, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The move is sudden since as late as Monday afternoon Jenkins was actively working on the movie.  Marvel is said to want to work with Jenkins again in some capacity. According to insiders, the studio is now on the hunt for a new filmmaker and the vacancy is expected to be filled very quickly.  The director's departure is the second for Thor 2; Kenneth Branagh, who directed the first movie, did not return for a second outing, also citing creative differences.

10/13/11 - Patty Jenkins will direct Thor 2, Marvel Studios officially announced on Thursday. Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Natalie Portman will all return for the sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Disney also announced that Thor 2 will be moved from its July 26, 2013, release date to Nov. 15, 2013.

8/4/11 - Variety reported that Brian Kirk has entered negotiations to serve as director of Thor 2.  Thor 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on July 26, 2013, three months after the release of Iron Man 3.

6/30/11 - Disney and Marvel Studios are moving ahead with Thor 2, setting a July 26, 2013 release date, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Kenneth Branagh will not return to direct, though he will serve as a producer.  Branagh had an option to direct the sequel and there were talks, but a 'mutual parting of ways' occurred. No writers have been hired for the sequel although Chris Hemsworth is slated to reprise his role as Thor.
