The Mortal Instruments

5/31/11 - Variety reported that Jamie Campbell Bower will star opposite Lily Collins in Screen Gems’ The Mortal Instruments.  Cassandra Clare's bestselling young adult book series follows Clary Fray, a seemingly ordinary teenager who discovers she is the descendent of a demon-hunting clan called Shadowhunters. Bower will play Jace Wayland, a Shadowhunter with tattooed arms who is seeking to avenge his father's death.  Scott Stewart is directing the Jess Postigo-scripted film, which is expected to launch a feature franchise, as there are six novels in Clare's series.  Unique Features' Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne will produce with Robert Kulzer, while Dylan Sellers will exec produce with Constantin's Martin Moszkowicz.

6/18/09 - After forming Unique Features with a three-year first-look deal at Warner Brothers, former New Line executive Bob Shaye and his longtime partner Michael Lynne have assembled a slate of films that includes animation, sci-fi and fantasy, Variety reported.  Among the projects in development:

♦The animated High in the Clouds, an adaptation of a children's book written by McCartney, Geoff Dunbar and Philip Ardagh, to be directed by Rob Minkoff and adapted by Caroline Thompson, about a squirrel's quest to find an animal sanctuary.

♦Warner Brothers has committed to develop 7th Son, a drama based on a trio of graphic novels by J.C. Hutchins, in which seven strangers, assembled after the assassination of the U.S. president, each realize they are the same man, with the same memories.

♦Warner is also aboard Alt-Delete, a sci-fi comedy written by Tim Kelleher and Danny Zuker, in which two guys working for a video-game publishing company come to realize they are avatars in a larger game.

♦Warner will also develop Thieves of Baghdad, a 10th-century family adventure steeped in the world of the Arabian Nights, with Cole Haddon writing the script.

The Mortal Instruments, based on a best-selling young-adult fantasy trilogy by Cassandra Clare, about a young girl who inherited an ability to see and interact with a clan of supernatural spirits.
