The Martian Chronicles

4/15/11 - Paramount has picked up movie rights to The Martian Chronicles, sci-fi maven Ray Bradbury's classic short story collection about humans trying to colonize Mars, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  In three structures, the stories dealt with attempts to settle Mars and the Martians' efforts to fight the humans off, and the colonization of the red planet and a nuclear war that eventually forces most of the humans to return to Earth. In the aftermath of the war, humans become the new Martians.

6/25/10 - Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles is being made into a big-budget Hollywood movie, according to the L.A. Times.  Sources say that John Davis has optioned film rights to the Ray Bradbury classic, in which humans land on Mars after a cataclysmic disaster and interact/clash with the natives in a series of interlinked adventures.  Bradbury's 1950 short-story collection has made it to the screen before, in a 1980 television miniseries that starred Rock Hudson and Bernadette Peters. But 30 years later, there's plenty more that technology could bring to the tales.
