The Lost Symbol

12/20/10 - Author Dan Brown has taken over writing duties on the film adaptation of The Lost Symbol, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Columbia Pictures is developing the film version of Brown's most recent novel, which was published in 2009. In it, Brown's regular protagonist, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, gets mixed up with the Freemasons in Washington, D.C.  This is the first time Brown has taken on screenwriting duties.  Although Ron Howard and Brian Grazer's Imagine Entertainment is once again producing, Howard, who directed the first two Brown adaptations, has not committed to directing Symbol. Nor has star Tom Hanks officially come on board to reprise Langdon.

2/4/10 - Columbia Pictures is moving forward with The Lost Symbol, the third film in the Da Vinci Code franchise, and has tapped British scribe Steven Knight to adapt, according to Variety.  Based on the Dan Brown thriller of the same name, Lost Symbol finds Robert Langdon summoned to Washington, D.C., where he begins decoding the symbols of the Freemasons.  Tom Hanks, who played Langdon in The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, has not yet committed to reprise the role, though he is expected to. Imagine's Brian Grazer and Ron Howard have signed on to produce the latest installment alongside John Calley.
