Survival of the Dead 7/22/09 - George Romero finally has a title for his newest zombie feature, Survival of the Dead. The movie is set to premiere this September at the Toronto International Film Festival, according to a press release on the festival's official website. It looks like Survival of the Dead will be as freighted with social commentary as the other entries in Romero's zombie series, which over its 41-year history has savaged everything from the crass consumerism of shopping malls to YouTube. The premise of Survival of the Dead deals with a group of people who insist on chaining up their recently deceased loved ones in their homes so they can lead "normal" lives until a cure for their zombie condition is found.
10/3/08 - Night of the Living Dead director George Romero is beginning production on another as-yet-untitled thriller film again involving the undead, Variety reported. Romero's most recent film was Diary of the Dead, the latest chapter in his zombie franchise. Romero wrote the new film and began shooting this week in Ontario. The plot involves inhabitants of an isolated island off the North American coast who find their relatives rising from the dead to eat their kin. The leaders of the island feud over whether or not to kill their reanimated relatives or preserve them in hopes of finding a cure. The cast includes Alan Van Sprang, Kenneth Welsh, Kathleen Munroe, Devon Bostick, Richard Fitzpatrick, Stefano Colacitti and Athena Karkanis.
