Space Invaders

7/8/11 - Space Invaders movie, the classic 1980s arcade game, is heading to the big screen courtesy of producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Odd Lot Entertainment’s Gigi Pritzker, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The two have teamed up to option the rights and develop the project and are now on the hunt for a writer to come up with a story.  With Space Invaders, the producers are facing an interesting challenge: The video game doesn’t have a built-in mythology, so on one hand a film won’t risk offending game fans.

3/3/10 - Warner Brothers has decided to adapt Space Invaders for the silver screen.  The Los Angeles Times reports Warner Bros. is negotiating to acquire feature rights to the landmark shooter from Taito, the Japanese company that originally manufactured the game. If the rights issues all work out, the project would bring on Hollywood fixtures Mark Gordon, Jason Blum and Guymon Casady as producers.
