Sherlock Holmes 2

9/27/10 - Stephen Fry is the latest to jump aboard Sherlock Holmes 2, joining as Holmes' brother, Mycroft Holmes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  In the books by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Mycroft Holmes is the famous detective's more intelligent older brother. He holds a mysterious position high in the British government, but also happens to be lazier than Sherlock Holmes. Sources say the character in the sequel's script is described as "an agoraphobic oddball."

9/13/10 - Noomi Rapace has been cast as the female lead in Sherlock Holmes 2, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The Warner Bros. sequel reunites most of the team from last year's original: Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes and Jude Law as Dr. Watson. Guy Ritchie is back as director.  The plot is being kept under wraps, although it is known Holmes will face off against Moriarty. Also making an appearance will be Holmes' brother, Mycroft.  Rapace's role is shrouded in mystery although sources say the character may be a French Gypsy. It is unclear if the role is romantic in nature.  Warners is looking to start production later this year.

5/27/10 - Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Barry Meyer announced a release for Sherlock Holmes 2 as December 16, 2011.

11/25/09 - The new update of Sherlock Holmes opens Christmas Day, but Warner Brothers president of production Jeff Robinov has already ordered a sequel. "There's an article in Entertainment Weekly this week about Sherlock," Joel Silver said. "[Robinov's] quote said, 'If the movie's a hit, I want to get the sequel going as fast as possible.' So he just came right out there and said that. I would have just waited until the movie opened first, but he wanted people to know that's what they want to do. In fact, we have a script being written, and if the picture does work, you'll be seeing another one, I hope, pretty soon." Silver added that the first Sherlock, starring Robert Downey Jr., clocks in at just over two hours.

9/22/09 - Robert Downey Jr.'s new take on Sherlock Holmes doesn't hit theaters until Christmas, but Warner Brothers is already developing a sequel featuring none other than Brad Pitt as the villain, The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Biz blog reports.  The studio is poised to bring on Kieran and Michele Mulroney, the scribes who are penning its Justice League: Mortal tentpole, to pen a draft of the new tale.  Brad Pitt has had discussions with producers to star as Holmes' nemesis Moriarty in the new pic, say people familiar with the project, though there is no deal in place for him to take the part.  Guy Ritchie directed Sherlock Holmes, which stars Downey as the title character, Jude Law as Watson and McAdams as Irene Adler. They are expected to return for a sequel, should one develop.
