The Munsters

3/20/12 - Eddie Izzard has become the first person cast for the dramatic reinvention of The Munsters, according to the Hollywood Reporter.  The former star of The Riches would play Grandpa Munster. In addition, Izzard also would serve as a producer on the pilot, which hails from exec producers Bryan Singer and Bryan Fuller.  In the reboot, Grandpa is described as a powerful vampire with the quick wit that Lewis initially injected into the character. He's the head of the mysterious family who continues to have Herman under his thumb.  NBC initially eyed the reboot, which has been titled Mockingbird Lane, for this development season but pushed the project to summer.  Fuller is penning the project for Universal Television. Fuller and NBC first made an attempt to revive the sitcom last year, with the network ultimately passing. His newer version is said to be an edgier and slightly darker take exploring origins of Herman and Lily Munster and how they arrived at the famed 1313 Mockingbird Lane address.

11/30/11 - Bryan Singer is closing in on a deal to direct and executive produce NBC's The Munsters, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The project, which received a pilot order earlier this month, is billed as an imaginative reinvention of the classic comedy series as a visually spectacular one-hour drama.  Singer will executive produce alongside Bryan Fuller.

11/16/11 - NBC has picked up the pilot, The Munsters, which is a reinvention of the classic comedy series as a one-hour drama, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The project, which is being produced by Universal Television, will be written and executive produced Bryan Fuller.

8/10/11 - NBC is developing a remake of The Munsters with Bryan Fuller, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  New NBC Entertainment topper Robert Greenblatt is said to like the idea of a remake and has asked Fuller to take another attempt at the project.  Fuller’s new look is said to be an edgier and slightly darker hour-long take exploring origins of Herman and Lily Munster and how they arrived at the famed 1313 Mockingbird Lane address.

9/30/10 – Blastr.com reported that Bryan Fuller is developing The Munsters, a family of classic monsters who live a blue-collar life.  At this point, NBC has only ordered a pilot of this modern-day reboot, described as Modern Family meets True Blood.  Rumor has it that Guillermo del Toro may be involved in some capacity.

11/13/08 - The Wayans brothers' Munsters reboot movie is closer than ever to happening, Shawn Wayans told MTV News, with the team behind Scary Movie and Little Man finalizing work on their third draft of the script.  "I'm almost ready. It's almost ready to be shot," Wayans said. "We had to finish this movie, and now we're going through our third polish on The Munsters."  Rumors have continued to swirl about the project since the Brothers first announced their involvement in the summer of 2004.
