Men in Black 3

4/15/11 - Michael Stuhlbarg has been cast in Men in Black 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Will Smith and Josh Brolin lead the cast of the third installment of Columbia’s sci-fi comedy being directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and currently in production. The 3D movie is scheduled for a May 25, 2012 release.  The studio isn’t revealing too many details about the film, although it is known to feature a time travel element, allowing Brolin to play a young Tommy Lee Jones and Alice Eve, a young Emma Thompson, as the MIB agents try to save the world in 1969. Stuhlbarg will play a character called Griffin.

3/15/11 - Alec Baldwin says he has dropped out of Men in Black III, a project that started shooting last November without a script, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  A scheduled production break from late-December to mid-February has been extended to March 28 to resolve time-travel script issues for the complicated, effects-driven tentpole.

9/30/10 - Emma Thompson is in negotiations to join Will Smith in Men In Black III, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Barry Sonnenfeld is directing the project, which reunites Smith’s Agent Jay with Tommy Lee Jones’ Agent Kay. Most of the action, however, takes place in the 1969 with Josh Brolin playing a young Jones.  Jemaine Clement is playing the villain in the script, which is being kept under wraps.  Thompson will play take-charge MIB operative Agent Oh, who is monitoring a prison breakout. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are producing. David Koepp wrote the most recent draft.  MIB3 begins shooting later this month in New York.

5/20/10 - Jemaine Clement is in final negotiations to play one of the villains in Men in Black 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Will Smith recently signed his deal to return as the alien-chasing government agent, as did returning director Barry Sonnenfeld. Most of the action in the Columbia project is taking place in 1969, with Josh Brolin playing a young Tommy Lee Jones, who will bookend the movie.  Most of the new casting will be the villains, whose identities, look and super-abilities are being kept under lock and key. It is known that Clement is playing a villain named Boris, who is described as being charmy and creepy at the same time.

5/7/10 - Men in Black are headed back to movie theaters for a third time in a new version set for a 3D release, starring Will Smith, Columbia Pictures said.  Tommy Lee Jones is in advanced talks with the studio to reprise his role in Men In Black III in 3D. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on May 25, 2012, the studio said.  Josh Brolin also is in talks to work on the movie. It will be directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and produced by Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald. Steven Spielberg will executive produce.

10/30/09 - Sony Pictures is moving forward on MIB 3, the third movie in its sci-comedy franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Etan Cohen is penning the script, and Barry Sonnenfeld, who directed the first two films, is said to be attached to the new installment, though there is no formal deal or offer as yet.  The studio is eyeing a 2010 start date for the production.  The X factor remains Will Smith. The A-lister, who starred with Tommy Lee Jones in the first two "Men in Black" films, has not committed to the project, though in recent days the buzz in development circles has been that he is interested in returning. Smith does not have a pending movie project lined up.  Jones' involvement is uncertain.  Sony announced in April that it would bring back the tale of covert, pseudonymous agents who stalk the earth fighting disguised aliens, zapping beasts and memories as they go.

4/2/09 - Rory Bruer, president of Sony Worldwide Distribution, announced during the company's ShoWest 2009 presentation that it is developing another Men in Black movie. Bruer also confirmed Sony is hard at work on a Ghostbusters sequel and Spider-Man 4. All three projects are in the works with an eye toward 2011 releases.
