Logan’s Run

10/31/11 - Logan’s Run is getting a new screenwriter, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Andrew Baldwin will write the new Warner Bros. version of the classic sci-fi tale for director Nicolas Winding Refn, star Ryan Gosling and producers Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman.  Logan’s Run, set in a utopian, post-apocolyptic society in which people must be put to death when they reach age 30. The remake has been in development for more than a decade.

 

4/1/11 - Will Beall is in negotiations to write Logan's Run, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The project has been long in development at Warners, but it recently got some new laces for its shoes when producers Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman lined up Ryan Gosling to star and Nicolas Winding Refn to direct the sci-fi action movie.

 

2/10/11 - Variety reported that Ryan Gosling is in talks with Warner Bros. to star in the remake of Logan's Run.  Joel Silver and Andrew Rona are producing via their Silver Pictures shingle with Weed Road's Akiva Goldsman. Kerry Foster's exec producing.  Golsing will portray a cop in a world where those who reach 30 are put to death to prevent over-population. 

 

6/17/10 – Writer Alex Garland is in negotiations to scribe Logan's Run, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Warner Bros. has been trying to get a movie version off the ground, and late last month began talking with commercials veteran Carl Rinsch to come aboard as director.  Logan's Run is set in a future society that demands the death of everyone upon reaching a certain age. Anyone who veers from that destiny is dubbed a "runner" and is hunted by operatives known as Sandmen. Logan is a Sandman who is forced to go on the run. 

 

6/7/10 - Joel Silver told MTV News that his next project, a reboot of the 1976 film Logan's Run, is going to be shot in 3-D.  He's not talking last-minute 3-D conversion, but a movie conceived from the ground up using 3-D technology.  "I'd like to make Logan's Run in 3-D," he said. "It's a movie I've always been intrigued with, excited by. We're writing a script now, and that should be a big 3-D movie, and it should be devised and shot in 3-D. I think if we can pull it together, then it would be."

 

5/26/10 - Carl Rinsch is in talks to direct Warner Bros.’ Logan’s Run, produced by Joel Silver and Akiva Goldsman, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Logan's Run is best remembered as the 1976 film starring Michael York, Jenny Agutter and Farrah Fawcett, though it was based on a 1967 novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson. The premise sees a future society that demands the death of everyone upon reaching a certain age. Anyone who veers from that destiny is dubbed a "runner" and is hunted by operatives known as Sandmen. Logan is a Sandman who is forced to go on the run.  The film still has a ways to travel before getting to the screen as Warners’ next step after Rinsch’s hiring will be bringing on board a new writer to pen a new script.

 

07/30/07 - A remake of the 1976 science-fiction cult classic Logan's Run is in production.  Joel Silver, whose production company Silver Pictures, is developing the remake.  No release dates yet.
