Jack the Giant Killer 3/22/11 - Ian McShane has been cast to play a king in New Line's Jack the Giant Killer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jack centers on a farm boy played by Nicholas Hoult who leads an expedition to free a princess (Eleanor Tomlinson) taken hostage by a giant, a situation that threatens the uneasy peace between humans and giants. McShane will play the princess' father, King Brahmwell, who is none-too-thrilled about a union between his daughter and a farmer boy.

The project, which Bryan Singer is directing, is a retelling of the Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale centering on a farm boy who leads an expedition to free a princess taken hostage by a giant, a situation which threatens the uneasy peace between humans and giants. Nicholas Hoult stars as the peasant while Stanley Tucci is playing the villain, an advisor to the king with designs on usurping power. Ewan McGregor, Bill Bighy and John Kassir are also in the cast.

Additionally, Bill Nighy and John Kassir will play the two-headed leader of the giants. McGregor would play the leader of the king’s elite guard, who helps fight giants. The movie begins shooting late March in London.
11/30/10 - Jack the Giant Killer, the Bryan Singer film set up at New Line and Legendary Pictures, is testing for the male and female leads, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The script, by Christopher McQuarrie, tells about a kidnapped princess that threatens the long-standing peace between humans and giants. A young farmer is then forced to lead a rescue mission to the giants' kingdom. Aaron Johnson, Nicholas Hoult and Aneurin Bernard are up for the young farmer role. On the female front, Adelaide Kane, Lily Collins and Juno Temple are testing for the part of the princess. The movie is expected to start up in March.

Neal Moritz is producing via his Original Film banner along with David Dobkin. The script, by Mark Bomback, is set in motion when a princess is kidnapped, threatening a long-standing peace between men and giants. A young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants' kingdom in hopes of rescuing her. Darren Lemke is the original writer. Michele Weiss and Michael Disco are overseeing for the studio.
