I Am Number Four

4/30/10 - Dianna Agron has nabbed the female romantic lead in I Am Number Four, the big-screen adaptation of the upcoming young-adult science-fiction book by James Frey and Jobie Hughes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Agron will play a girl dating a high school jock who falls for Number Four and becomes his confidante.  Sharlto Copley is already on board as Four's mentor, while Teresa Palmer is cast as Pettyfer's fellow alien, Number Six.  Al Gough and Miles Millar wrote the screenplay. Four is scheduled to begin principal photography next month in Pittsburgh.

 

4/22/10 - Teresa Palmer joins I Am Number Four, DreamWorks' adaptation of the upcoming young-adult science fiction book by James Frey and Jobie Hughes. D.J. Caruso is directing, The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog reported; Palmer will play Number Six, one of nine aliens who escape their home planet before its annihilation by a rival species and hide out on Earth disguised as human high schoolers.

 

4/14/10 - Sharlto Copley, the South African actor and star of District 9, is in talks to join the cast of I Am Number Four, an adaptation of the upcoming young-adult science fiction book by James Frey and Jobie Hughes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Alex Pettyfer is playing the title role of Four, one of nine aliens who escape their home planet before its annihilation by a rival species and hide out on Earth disguised as human high schoolers. Copley would play a man who hailed from the alien world's serving class but now is the title character's adult guardian and mentor.  D.J. Caruso is directing.

 

3/31/10 - Alex Pettyfer is in talks for the lead role in I Am Number Four, based on the upcoming young-adult science-fiction book by James Frey and Jobie Hughes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Four revolves around a group of nine aliens who escaped their home planet just before it was annihilated by a rival species. Hiding out on Earth, the title character (Pettyfer) disguises himself as a human high schooler, only to discover that he is still being hunted by his planet's enemy.  Al Gough and Miles Millar wrote the screenplay for the DreamWorks project, adapting what HarperCollins Children's Books, which published the book in the fall, plans on being a six-book series.

 

1/20/10 - Disturbia director D.J. Caruso is on board to shoot I Am Number Four, DreamWorks' adaptation of the upcoming young-adult science fiction book by James Frey and Joby Hughes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Four revolves around a group of nine aliens who escaped their home planet just before it was annihilated by a rival species. Hiding out on Earth, the title character disguises himself as a human high schooler, only to discover he is being hunted still by his planet's enemy. HarperCollins Children's Books is publishing the book, which would be the first in a series of six, this fall. DreamWorks picked up film rights in June, with Michael Bay attached to produce and possibly direct. Bay remains on board as a producer. Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar wrote the screenplay.

 

8/27/09 - DreamWorks has set Al Gough and Miles Millar to write I Am Number Four, the screen adaptation of James Frey and Jobie Hughes' sci-fi novel, Variety reported.  Michael Bay will produce and possibly direct the movie.  HarperCollins Children's Books is publishing the book, about a group of nine aliens who flee to Earth, disguised as teenagers, when their home planet is destroyed.

 

6/30/09 - Director Michael Bay will produce and possibly direct I Am Number Four for DreamWorks, Variety reported; based on a six-book science fiction series, the story follows a group of nine earthbound alien teens who escaped their planet just before it was destroyed by a hostile species.
