House of Night 11/2/11 - Variety reported that Davis Films has bought feature rights to mother-daughter authors P.C. and Kristin Cast's young-adult vampire series House of Night. The story centers on a 16-year-old girl named Zoey Redbird, who's sent to a special boarding school after learning she is genetically earmarked to become a "vampyre" in adolescence, or killed in the process. The series has sold more than 12 million copies in the U.S. and has been on the New York Times bestseller list for a record 140 weeks, with versions in a total 39 countries.
11/18/08 - Producers Michael Birnbaum and Jeremiah Chechik have optioned screen rights to the House of Night, a series of nine young-adult vampire novels by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast, Variety reported. The series, published by St. Martin's Griffin, just reached its fourth installment with the recently released Untamed. House of Night takes the vampire myth in a Harry Potter-esque direction. In the series, "vampyres" are accepted in society; they possess a genetic anomaly that manifests itself in some people at puberty. Vampyres are "marked" and sent to the House of Night, a school that offers training necessary to become an adult vampyre. The heroine is Zoey Redbird, whose ordinary life is thrown into disarray when she becomes a vampyre and must change schools and enter a brand new world.
