Hancock 2

9/11/09 - Variety is now confirming that Wil Smith, Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman are gearing up to reunite for the sequel.  Peter Berg, who directed the original film, is set to direct the action-comedy follow-up.  Berg disclosed the news at the Toronto Film Festival where he said, "Everybody's going to come back for a sequel."  The director has been working with TV scribes Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara to pen the script.  Plot details are being kept under wraps, Berg told us that a sequel would elaborate on the film's mythology, in which Smith is a god who loses his superpowers in the presence of his former goddess companion (Theron).  "There might be another god out there," Berg said.  Sony has yet to set a release date, and the studio stressed that no official talent deals had yet been signed, given that the script is not yet complete.

8/25/09 - Columbia has hired Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara to write Hancock 2, the sequel to the Will Smith superhero movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Plot details are being kept under wraps, though the writers will reportedly work with Smith and director Peter Berg to build on the world hinted at in the first movie.

8/18/09 – SCI FI Wire reported that Peter Berg, director of the superhero movie Hancock, has some ideas for a sequel if one ever comes to pass.  At the end of last year's Hancock, it was revealed that Will Smith's superpowered character was actually an immortal god who became vulnerable only when in the presence of his goddess companion (Charlize Theron). Berg confirmed that a sequel would elaborate on the film's mythology.  "There might be another god out there," Berg said. "Might be another one."  If two gods render each other mortal, imagine what kind of wrench a third would throw into the mix. Also, imagine the casting to match up with Will Smith and Charlize Theron! In the mythology of Hancock, all the gods supposedly died out except for our heroes, so a third deity would tweak the mythos.  Berg also confirmed that the subplot of Jason Bateman's publicist character should pick up where it left off in Hancock, where he's starting his charity campaign.  Of course, Columbia Pictures would love another Will Smith blockbuster for the earliest possible summer position. Smith and Berg, however, are in no rush. "They like to fast-track it, but Will's busy, I'm pretty busy," Berg continued. "We're excited to do one, but we want the script to be right and the movie to be right. We don't feel a burning imperative to go right back into it."

12/5/08 - Will Smith told JoBlo.com that there will "definitely" be a sequel to his superhero movie Hancock and that there are a lot of unexplored characters.
