12/17/10 - George Clooney is returning to space in Gravity, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The project revolves around a female astronaut (Sandra Bullock) trying to make it to Earth after a disaster in space. Clooney will play her colleague.  The film is expected to start production in the spring.

10/7/10 - Sandra Bullock is in negotiations to star in Gravity.  The studio went to Bullock after Natalie Portman's on-and-off-again negotiations went into off mode for good.  Alfonso Cuaron, who is directing and co-wrote the script with his son Jonas.  Although Robert Downey Jr. brings star power, his role is overshadowed by the female lead, an astronaut whose struggle to survive a avalanche of space junk becomes the film's focus.

9/7/10 - Natalie Portman is fielding an offer from Warner Bros. to step into the shoes of Angelina Jolie for Alfonso Cuaron's sci-fi survival movie, Gravity, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Cuaron had devised it as a Jolie vehicle, but she passed, the studio looked for other suitable actresses and tested Blake Lively and Scarlett Johannson, then went back to Jolie, who passed again.

8/11/10 - Blake Lively and Scarlett Johansson are vying for the chance to star in Gravity, an outer space thriller to which Robert Downey Jr. is attached, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Alfonso Cuaron, who is directing and co-wrote the script with his brother Jonas, is readying the Warner Bros. project.  Johansson and Lively recently tested for the lead role of a female astronaut lost in space. A decision is expected within a week or two. Filming probably would begin early next year.  The movie's plot revolves around astronauts repairing the Hubble telescope who are hit with an avalanche of satellite junk. The surviving astronaut must fight her way back to Earth, where she hopes to reunite with her daughter.  Although Downey brings star power to the project, his role is overshadowed by the female lead, whose struggle to survive becomes the movie's focus.

3/15/10 - Robert Downey Jr. replaces Angelina Jolie in Alfonso Cuaron’s 3-D space film Gravity, deadline.com reported.  Downey is negotiating a deal to star as the leader of a team posted at a remote space station who is traveling outside the station with a female colleague when the other team members are killed by debris from an exploded satellite.  Cuaron wrote the script, which had originally been developed at Universal with the intention of having Jolie play the female role, with his son, Jonas. Much of the film was to be devoted to Jolie's struggle to get back to Earth and her daughter. But Jolie passed on the project around the time Universal cut it loose, and it will now be co-financed by Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures.

2/26/10 – According to New York Magazine's Vulture blog, Angeline Jolie will star in Gravity, a space thriller from director Alfonso Cuarón instead of a sequel to 2008's Wanted.  In the sci-fi movie, which will be produced by longtime Harry Potter producer David Heyman, Jolie will be by herself for much of the film. Jolie plays the sole surviving human member of a space mission, desperately trying to return home to Earth and her daughter.
