Fright Night

6/21/10 - British actress Imogen Poots has been cast as the female lead in Fright Night, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Poots joins Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Toni Collette, David Tennant and Christopher Mintz-Plasse in the DreamWorks film, which centers on a teen (Yelchin) convinced that his new neighbor (Farrell) is a vampire.  Poots will play Yelchin's girlfriend, part of the popular crowd and unaware of his earlier life as a nerd.  The movie shoots in the summer in New Mexico. Craig Gillespie is directing.

 

6/9/10 - David Tennant and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are joining the cast of Fright Night, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Anton Yelchin stars as Charlie, a teen convinced that his new neighbor (Colin Farrell) is a vampire. Toni Collette is the teen's disbelieving mom, who falls under the vampire's spell.  Tennant will play Peter Vincent, a character who in the original movie was played by Roddy McDowall as the host of a late-night horror show. In the remake, he's a Las Vegas magician whose show revolves around horror-movie imagery. Vincent claims to be a vampire expert, but when the teen turns to him for assistance, he's less than helpful.  Mintz-Plasse is playing Evil Ed, Yelchin's friend who feels slighted that Charlie has left his nerdy past behind and thus joins the vampire's coven.

 

5/11/10 - Colin Farrell has signed to star as Jerry the vampire opposite Star Trek's Anton Yelchin in Fright Night, the upcoming remake of the 1985 horror comedy movie, Deadline.com reported; The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision, meanwhile, reports that Australian actress Toni Collette has also joined Fright Night.

 

4/6/10 - Anton Yelchin is in talks to play the lead in DreamWorks Studios' remake Fright Night from director Craig Gillespie, according to Variety.  Yelchin will play the role of Charley Brewster, a teen who discovers that his neighbor is a vampire. Gillespie will direct from an adapted script by Marti Noxon. Original "Fright Night" was released in 1985.  Michael De Luca, Alison Rosenzweig, Lloyd Ivan Miller, Michael Gaeta and Josh Bratman are exec producers.

 

3/8/10 - The Los Angeles Times reports that Craig Gillespie may direct the remake of the classic vampire comedy-drama Fright Night, which will be updated by writer Marti Noxon.

 

11/12/09 - Marti Noxon, writer-producer on the critically acclaimed Mad Men, has been hired to script a remake of Fright Night for DreamWorks, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The original Fright Night, released in 1985, starred Chris Sarandon, Roddy McDowall and William Ragsdale, with Ragsdale playing a teenager who discovers his neighbors are vampires.

 

5/14/09 - The Hollywood Reporter says that DreamWorks Pictures is in the process of picking up a remake of Fright Night, a horror comedy about a teenager who discovers that his neighbors are vampires.
