The Forever War 3/27/09 - Ridley Scott, who is developing a film version of Joe Haldeman's seminal SF war novel The Forever War, told reporters that James Cameron's Avatar is inspiring him to shoot War in 3-D. "I'm filming a book by Joe Haldeman called Forever War," Scott reportedly said. "I've got a good writer doing it. I've seen some of James Cameron's work, and I've got to go 3-D. It's going to be phenomenal." First published in 1974, The Forever War chronicles the interstellar war between humanity and the enigmatic Tauran species.
10/13/08 - Fox 2000 has acquired rights to Joe Haldeman's 1974 novel The Forever War, and Ridley Scott is planning to make it into his first science fiction film since he delivered back-to-back classics with Blade Runner and Alien, Variety reported. The film will be produced by Scott Free. Vince Gerardis and Ralph Vicinanza will executive-produce. The book centers on a soldier who battles an enemy in deep space for only a few months, only to return home to a planet he doesn't recognize some 20 years later.
