Elysium 4/6/11 - Variety reported that William Fichtner is in final negotiations to join Jodie Foster in Neill Blomkamp's sci-fi epic Elysium. Sony is set to distribute the film, which also stars Matt Damon, Brazilian thesp Wagner Moura and Sharlto Copley. Plot details remain scarce, though the futuristic story is said to be in the same social-allegory vein as "District 9" but on a much bigger scale. Bill Block and Simon Kinberg are producing, which is scheduled to start production in July, with Sony set to release the film on March 8, 2013.
3/9/11 – Variety reported that Wagner Moura has landed one of the lead roles in MRC and Sony's Elysium, which Neil Blomkamp will direct. The film stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and Sharlto Copley. Details on the plot are being kept under wraps, other than it's in the same social-allegory vein as ''District 9'' but on a much bigger scale set in the distant future. Moura would play a menacing character, the underground leader involved in human trafficking but a hero among his community. Bill Block, Modi Wiczyk, Victoria Metzger and Simon Kinberg will produce. The film will begin production in July with plans to release it in late 2012.
1/4/11 – There’s a lot of interest in District 9 writer/director Neill Blomkamp’s next film titled Elysium. Deadline reported that Jodie Foster will star along with Matt Damon and Sharlto Copley in the picture. Details about the three actors' roles and the story itself are all under wraps, except that it reportedly takes place in the far future. There's no word yet on when production will start since the director and the producers are still shopping the project to the studios.
