9/10/08 – SCI FI Wire reported the creators and actors of Deadgirl that the supernatural film is this generation's Stand by Me or River's Edge.  The independent horror film is also more gruesome and shocking. It follows two high-school burnouts who find a naked girl strapped to a table in an abandoned mental institution. When they realize that the woman won't die, they decide to keep her as a sex and torture slave and use her to exact their revenge on the jocks in school.  Shiloh Fernandez and Noah Segan play the slackers who find the girl. "It is all about pushing your friend into doing something more and more extreme, and it gets a bit scary," Fernandez said. "Yeah, I can see how this is representative of some of the people in our generation."  Co-directors Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Harel said they wanted the guys to be part of a subgroup, not overly popular but not geeks or stoners. Friends since they were teens, the co-directors see a bit of themselves in the characters.
