12/19/08 - The Champions, an SF movie based on a British TV series, is among three movies being developed by Valkyrie co-writer and producer Christopher McQuarrie and star Tom Cruise, Variety reported.  McQuarrie is writing and producing the United Artists project with Guillermo del Toro, writing the script with an eye toward hammering it into a Cruise vehicle.  The movie concerns a team of government agents rescued from a plane crash in the Himalayas by an advanced civilization and given superhuman abilities.  MGM brass have long felt that the project was UA's strongest chance for a big-ticket franchise vehicle that could star UA co-owner Cruise.

11/17/08 - Christopher McQuarrie has signed on to write The Champions, an SF film for United Artists, based on a '60s British TV show, about government agents who encounter a hidden civilization that grants them superhuman talents, according to The Hollywood Reporter; McQuarrie is working with Guillermo del Toro, who will produce but is not attached to direct.

11/08/07 - Guillermo del Toro will write, direct and produce the SF action movie Champions for United Artists, based on the 1968-'69 British TV series.  Champions will follow the adventures of a team of secret government agents who are rescued from a plane crash by an advanced civilization and given superhuman abilities.
