Candyland 2/1/12 - Sony Pictures is venturing into Candy Land with Adam Sandler, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The studio and Sandler's Happy Madison shingle are negotiating to take over the live-action project based on the classic Hasbro board game from Universal. Kevin Lima will direct the Sony movie from a script by Sandler and Robert Smigel. "Candy Land is more than just a game," said Columbia Pictures president Doug Belgrad in a statement announcing the deal. "It is a brand that children, parents and grandparents know and love. The world of Candy Land offers an extraordinary canvas upon which to create a fantastical, live-action family adventure film with a larger than life part for Adam. We are thrilled to partner with Hasbro and Happy Madison on this project."
3/28/11 - Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger will write Candyland for Universal, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Kevin Lima is attached to direct the project, which is being produced by Hasbro’s CEO Brian Goldner and senior vp of Hasbro Motion Pictures, Bennett Schneir. Christopher Chase is exec producing. The board game has a story centered around finding the lost king of Candy Land. The players wind their way through enchanted lands such as Candy Cane Forest and Gum Drop Mountain, see characters such as Princess Frostine and Gramma Nutt as well as the evil Lord Licorice who can make players lose a turn.
