At the Mountains of Madness

3/7/11 - Due to budgetary reasons, Guillermo del Toro may need to place his adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness on hold, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  Universal and del Toro have been for months jossling over a budget and a rating that would make the studio comfortable with making the movie. The filmmaker had a $150 million pot and was intent on making a scary R-rated monster movie.  Some sources are saying Univeral is feeling pressure from its new owners to be more fiscally prudent.  del Toro is exploring the option to take the project to another studio. Sources say Fox is a likely destination.

12/27/07 - Guillermo del Toro hopes to develop a movie adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness.  Del Toro has spent nearly five years developing a film based on Mountains, a novella that Lovecraft published in 1931. The story centers on an expedition in Antarctica that discovers the remains of ancient creatures that were killed by their shapeshifting servants, called shoggoths, and the shoggoths are still alive.
