11/10/11 - Screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos has been hired to work on the script for Universal's Asteroids project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The plotline for the film adaptation has evolved into the story of two estranged brothers that must team up to save Earth from an alien race.  Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing.

7/2/09 - Universal has secured the film rights to classic Atari arcade game Asteroids, according to a story from The Hollywood Reporter.  The report says the movie will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and written by Matthew Lopez.  Released in arcades in 1979, Asteroids featured a triangular ship as players attempted to blast through huge meteors.  Players could rotate the ship, but only moved by using a thrust button.
