9/18/12 - Bill Paxton is in negotiations to
join Tom Cruise in All You Need is Kill, a sci-fi action movie at Warner
Bros.
Cruise is a raw recruit who gets killed
in action but, in Groundhog Day fashion, is reborn each day to fight and
die again and again. He begins trying to train himself to be a better
soldier in hopes of changing his fate.
Paxton would play a tough-as-nails
platoon sergeant described in the script as “a living piece of leather.”
8/6/12 - Warner Bros.' U.K.
studio facility Leavesden Studios will host the Tom Cruise starrer All
You Need Is Kill as its first production to shoot at the studio site,
according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Warner Bros snapped up
the Leavesden site on outskirts of London after making all eight Harry
Potter films there using temporary soundstages and facilities.
All You Need Is Kill is
in pre-production and will be the first feature to be entirely based
there.
It is a sci-fi story
about a soldier who becomes stuck in a time loop on the last day of a
battle to defend Earth from aliens and based on a novel by Japanese
writer Hiroshi Sakurazaka.
4/16/12 - Emily Blunt is in
negotiations to star opposite Tom Cruise in All You Need Is Kill, a
sci-fi war film being made by Warner Bros. and director Doug Liman,
according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The script sees Cruise as a raw recruit who gets killed in action
but, in Groundhog Day fashion, is reborn each day to fight, and die,
again and again. He begins trying to train himself to be a better
soldier in hope of changing his fate.
Blunt would play Valkyrie One, one of humankind’s best soldiers.
Erwin Stoff, Tom Lassally and Jason Hoffs are producing. Jon Berg
is overseeing for the studio.
12/1/11 - Tom Cruise will star in Doug Liman's movie All You Need Is Kill. Based on a Japanese graphic novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, All You Need Is Kill tells the story of a soldier who is killed while fighting a war against aliens...and then awakens to find himself repeating the same day. The bad news is that he's going to keep getting killed over and over again. The good news is that he's able to carry knowledge and training over to each new incarnation, so he might eventually be able to change his fate. Dante Harper originally wrote the script. Joby Harold did the rewrite. All You Need Is Kill should be shooting sometime in late 2012.
6/16/10 - Doug Liman will begin talks later this week to direct the sci-fi action tale All You Need Is Kill, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Warner Bros. project, based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka's graphic novel, follows a new recruit in a war against aliens. He finds himself caught in a time loop where he wakes up one day in the past after having been killed on the battlefield. Through the training and battles he experiences in these time loops, he becomes a better soldier.
