Book Reviews: Soon I Will Be Invincible

Soon I Will Be Invincible by Austin Grossman

The inside cover and back cover are full of reviews from various media outlets but don't let the cover fool you just yet.  If you read the reviews, you may be expecting an exciting and adventurous plot.  There's also no question that Mr. Grossman positions the book as a witty outlook of the comic-book cliché.  The book boasts tons of humor and certain entertainment as well.  Do not judge a book by its cover, as they say.  In this case, Invincible meets that criteria.  Once you get into the novel and begin to understand the cliché and the parallel stories, it gets boring real fast.  Let's see...evil genius escapes prison; the world's number one hero is missing and feared dead (sound familiar yet?); the rest of the super hero community are leaderless and directionless; a new super hero emerges into her own abilities;  alas, it's all been a ploy from the beginning to capture the villain; the end.  (hahahaha...evil laugh, I try.)  Hey, if you like a parity, then get the book otherwise take a pass on this one.
